Every four years, the best athletes in the world gather for two weeks of grueling competition. Now, after two successful consecutive Olympic appearances, Oregon native Mariel Zagunis will travel to London to attempt a third individual gold medal in sabre. Oregon will gain even more of the spotlight, as Mariel also will carry the flag for team U.S.A. during the opening ceremony.

Phil Reilly, CMD’s president, has a long history in the world of fencing and a close association with Mariel. Since his 1984 Olympic appearance, Phil has been heavily involved in the Oregon Fencing Alliance (OFA) as a board member. The OFA has produced 50 world champions including several Olympic medal winners. Mariel has been training at OFA since she was nine and now has two Olympic gold medals from the 2004 and 2008 games and 19 medals at the World Championships.
What better way for CMD’s Earned Media to celebrate Mariel’s masterful achievement than a good ol’ fashion Twitter party! We’re posting one fencing- or Olympics-related question every day until Thursday, and the first person to correctly answer the question for the day will win an Olympic fencing hat. Follow our Twitter conversation at http://twitter.com/CMDPortland to be the first to answer each day’s question by tweeting @CMDPortland with the hashtag #TeamZagunis for a chance to win!
